Manchester City academy graduate James McAtee has been told to be patient about his future regarding first-team football by Pep Guardiola, as per a report by the Mail.

The 19-year-old has been outstanding this season for the Manchester City Under-23 squad in Premier League 2, doubling his numbers from the previous campaign, scoring 14 goals, and leading the charts for most goals, along with 4 assists in 18 appearances. These are phenomenal returns for a midfielder, who operates predominantly behind the attacking third.

The possibility of playing first-team football is a ‘big-attraction’ for the teenager, who has been linked with both loan and permanent moves to a host of Premier League clubs including the likes of Brighton, West Ham, and Crystal Palace reported to be open to potential moves to sight the promising talent, while new reports suggest that both Leicester and Aston Villa are eyeing the proficient youngster, the source further adds.

However, the 19-year-old is yet to solidify his place in the first-team, with his only appearance this season coming off the bench against Everton in a dominating 3-0 victory at the Etihad.

The Manchester City  Academy has been producing some serious talent off late with the likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer making their respective first-team debuts and impressing Pep with their skill set. The former especially has been a revelation for the defending champions netting the ball on 7 occasions and leading the attack admirably.

Manchester City have been in the market lately in pursuit of midfielders with Guardiola keen on reinforcing that aspect of the pitch. Club legend Fernandinho’s potential unavailability for the next term and the star duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan becoming injury-prone have only exacerbated things for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager.

In my opinion, McAtee will need to be patient as the opportunities will eventually arise for the prodigious talent to showcase the world his bag of tricks. Pep would also be keen on the fact that the Englishman would be roaring to break through into the senior ranks and thus sending him on a one-year loan would do his confidence a world of good.

Nevertheless, Guardiola has been a mastermind in raising the likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer. If James McAtee does follow the same path, Manchester City certainly have another star in the making.
