Kevin De Bruyne already established himself as a Manchester City legend ever since he made his move to the Etihad back in 2015. The elegant midfielder is known for his vision, creativity, and dribbling skills with which he dismantles his opponents on any given day.

Having said that, the 30-year-old has his work cut out after testing negative for the virus with both Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan striking golden form at the right time for the Cityzens. The former, especially, has been in scintillating form netting the ball thrice in last five matches and playing a pivotal role in the Cityzens victories over Aston villa ( 1-2 ) and Watford ( 1-3 ) on the road.

The Belgian though is going to face an uphill task to slot back into Guardiola’s starting 11 with Rodri being in his own element ever since the start of this season and Silva’s stupendous rise in the midfield doesn’t help his cause either. The final spot in the midfield owing to Pep Guardiola’s 4-3-3 formation is going to be decided between Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne.

The ‘Complete Man ‘ of football as termed by many, has been arguably the most influential member in the Skyblues setup with a staggering 32 goal contributions under his name since the start of the 2020/21 season. He has always been the go-to man for Pep Guardiola, given the midfielder was 100% fit.

The grueling winter schedule, especially with the Cityzens set to play seven matches in December could mean Guardiola’s rotation policy falling into place. After topping the charts for the first time this season, Pep would be keen on strengthening City’s chances of defending their title especially after Chelsea’s loss to West Ham United, where he stated “There’s absolutely no room for complacency.”

Based on current form, Gundogan may get the nod ahead of Kevin, but how long can the City boss keep a person of De Bruyne’s caliber on the sidelines?

Will KDB come up trumps in probably the biggest challenge he is going to face in Manchester City colors?
