Bernardo Silva was on the verge of parting ways with Manchester City with keen interest in a potential La-Liga switch with Reigning Spanish Champions  Atletico Madrid. However, Guardiola was one of the main reasons why the 26-year-old decided to stay.

"“Bernardo Silva’s flying.. and it’s thanks to Peo. Bernardo wanted to leave Man City last summer. The board asked for €70M – Atletico wanted Bernardo but NO way for €40/45M proposals.”“Guardiola changed Bernardo’s mind pushing him to stay…. and he’s back at top level.”Source : Fabrizio Romano (via Twitter)"

The 27-year-old has been sensational this season, scoring 7 goals and 1 assist in a mere 14 appearances for the Skyblues, outnumbering his previous season stats of 2 goals and 6 assists in 26 matches.

Bernardo has played pivotal roles in Cityzens emphatic victories over Aston Villa (2-1) and Watford (3-1). In the process, he has launched the defending PL champions to the top of the Premier League charts for the first time this season, overtaking Liverpool and European Champions Chelsea by 1 and 2 points respectively.

The Portuguese has been key to his National side in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, with an impressive G/A of 4 in 7 matches. Having said that, Portugal now faces an uphill task to make it to Qatar 2022 as they are likely going to meet Italy in the qualification knockouts in the European Qualifiers next year.

Silva has simply been the best player on the pitch for Guardiola and a transfer is unlikely to happen, at least in foreseeable future with Manchester City expected to be a bit more cautious this time around with the Portuguese’s future at the Etihad.

So, can Silva be the Guardian angel for Pep regarding the Striker role?
