Manchester City are the latest club to enter the race for Lille star Renato Sanches, reports Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

After a torrid spell with German giants Bayern Munich, Renato Sanches, 24, has somewhat improved his reputation at Ligue 1 club Lille. He helped Les Dogues win the Ligue 1 title last season, where he registered a goal and three assists in 23 appearances.

Despite enduring a slow start to the new season due to injury problems, the 24-year-old Portuguese is presently being tracked by Barcelona, AC Milan, Newcastle United and Liverpool, claims Fichajes. However, none of the clubs, including Manchester City, have made an offer to Lille for Renato Sanches as of now.

Manchester City are edging closer towards losing Ferran Torres to Barcelona, with the Spanish attacker seemingly getting the ‘green signal’ to leave from Pep Guardiola. They are set to lose Fernandinho too at the end of the season when his contract expires at the Etihad Stadium.

Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne have become injury-prone in recent years, which should concern Pep Guardiola. And as they are into their 30s, it would be a risk to head into the new season without improving the midfield department.

Perhaps, that’s why Manchester City are keeping tabs on Renato Sanches. The Portuguese international has managed to put his spells with Bayern Munich and Swansea City behind him by putting in consistent performances for Lille over the last two years.

At 24, he is ready to take the next big step in his career and a move to Manchester City could be ideal for his development. Given that the midfielder’s contract expires in 2023, Lille must realise that selling Renato Sanches in January would be the best chance to recoup some of the money they spent to acquire him from Bayern.

However, it remains to be seen how concrete Man City’s interest in the Portuguese midfielder is.
