According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Manchester City have made the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo one of their top priorities next year.
A couple of Manchester City players have been linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium ahead of the January transfer window. Raheem Sterling is frustrated with his lack of regular opportunities this season and has expressed his desire to leave if the situation doesn’t improve in the coming weeks amidst interest from Barcelona.
In the last 24 hours, Barcelona have upped their interest in signing Ferran Torres in the winter transfer window, with the Spanish forward attracted by the idea to lead the Catalan club’s attack. Torres, who is currently sidelined with a metatarsal injury, has apparently spoken to Pep Guardiola about his desire to join Barcelona and the Manchester City boss has responded by agreeing to a departure, as long as the La Liga club fulfills their demands.
Considering the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Sterling and Torres, the Cityzens’ interest in Dani Olmo makes sense. Olmo, 23, is widely regarded as one of the best attackers in German football, having taken his game to the next level since arriving at RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020. The Spanish international’s progress at RB Leipzig has not gone unnoticed, with the creative midfielder attracting interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs.
The 23-year-old is a highly versatile player who can operate in various positions across midfield and attack, and such flexibility makes him a perfect fit in Guardiola’s setup at Manchester City. On the other hand, the Sky Blues could sign Olmo as a potential replacement for Torres.
Owing to injuries, Olmo may have had a tough start to the Bundesliga season but there’s no doubting his talent and potential to make an instant impact at Man City if a move goes through next year.
The Spanish international has a contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2024, which means RB Leipzig are set to demand a substantial fee for their creative star, which the defending English champions in an ideal world should be able to pay.
