According to recent reports, Manchester City are eyeing an e Premier League and is ready to compete with several Elite European clubs also in search for the teenager’s signature.
The player in question is Southampton’s under-18 England star Kgaogelo ‘Kegs’ Chauke.
Chauke made his Saints debut in last season’s FA Cup win against Shrewsbury and has featured on the bench in the premier league several times.
Chauke’s contract will expire at the end of the season and he is still yet to sign an extension or say anything about his future at St.Mary’s.
Man City chiefs are keeping an eye on negotiations as well as scouts from the Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany led Belgian team Anderlecht.
Chauke, who turns 19 in January, was bought by Southampton from non-league Thatcham Town and signed his first professional contract in January of last year.
The youngster is a regular key man for Southampton’s B team, even captaining the side and playing a vital role in the form turnaround for the B team.
Manchester City are known to have one of the best academies in Europe and even some of the best state-of-the-art facilities that could assist in maximizing the potential and growth of a player like Chauke.
The midfielder, who has already drawn parallels to Theo Walcott who came from the Southampton youth team, is also eligible to play for South Africa and was even named in the preliminary squad for the Tokyo Olympics, but he could not make the cut.
Chauke is not the only prospect Man City have been linked to recently, other names include Aurelien Tchouameni and Jacob Ramsey.
