Emerging English midfielder on the radar of Manchester City

According to a report from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey has caught the eye of English champions Manchester City.

The English midfielder, 20, rose to prominence last season, making 22 Premier League appearances after being promoted to Aston Villa’s first-team by Dean Smith. Following Jack Grealish’s big-money summer move to Manchester City, he has been given even more opportunities by the Aston Villa boss this season.

Jacob Ramsey has impressed with his performances in the middle of the park, starting in each of the Villans’ last four league games against Newcastle United, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United. The 20-year-old midfielder is yet to score or assist, but his fine start to the 2021/22 season has seen him emerge as a potential target for Manchester City, reports Fichajes.

Manchester City have some top-class technicians in midfield that are capable of splitting open the tightest of defences across Europe. But there are a few problems in City’s midfield that needs sorting out.

Kevin De Bruyne, one of Europe’s best midfielders and chance-creator, has suffered some injury problems in the last couple of years, and with the playmaker entering his 30’s, Pep Guardiola must manage him well. The same goes with Ilkay Gundogan, who is currently out with a thigh injury.

At 36, Fernandinho is in the twilight of his career and is out of contract at the end of the season. Guardiola has revealed that Bernardo Silva, who was linked with a move away from Manchester City in the summer, may ask to leave the club in the future.

Thus, it is the right time for Guardiola and co. to make some smart long-term investments in midfield, which makes Jacob Ramsey an appealing target for the Sky Blues. Ramsey is a young, dynamic, energetic and versatile midfielder who is braced for his breakthrough campaign at Villa Park this year. The young Englishman has started the season very well, seemingly cementing his place in Dean Smith’s starting XI.

A player with loads of talent and a bright future ahead of him, Ramsey rightly finds himself on the radar of City. Ramsey who is just 20 years old with massive potential, the Sky Blues must keep tracking his progress at Villa.
