According to recent reports from the El Nacional, Manchester City are interested in signing a certain German goalkeeper in one of the upcoming transfer windows, if his parent club was to put him on the market.
The player in question is Barcelona’s star goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Once considered one of the few untouchable players in the Barcelona set-up, is now set to be looking for an exit. Alongside, Lionel Messi Ter Stegen was considered the first name in Barcelona’s teamsheet ever since Ernesto Valverde’s time at the club.
However, Ter Stegen’s form has dropped massively this season and is one of the worst starting goalkeepers in La Liga this season.
The report also suggests that Manchester City will only make a move for the 29-year old only if Barcelona list him up on the market and will not enter a bidding war whatsoever.
This however is unlikely to happen since despite Ter Stegen is not at his best right now, he is still a very important senior member of the Barca squad and given Barcelona’s financial condition it seems unlikely that they will be able to sign a like-to-like replacement for him.
But with Barcelona liked with the free agent Andre Onana a few days back, this could change. If they are able to fight Inter Milan off, another club in a financial mess, there could be some interesting development on the Ter Stegen front.
With Ter Stegen said to attract a sum upwards of 60 million Euros, we can expect many elite clubs to be interested in his services including Manchester City. With a four year contract in hand and a guaranteed starting position, it will be interesting to see if the German moves or not and if he does, where does he go?
With Ederson being given a new contract, the move for Ter Stegen looks like a far-fetched one, but it will be interesting to see if Manchester City and Guardiola move for him or not.
If you were Pep Guardiola, would you look to sign the German?
