According to recent reports, Manchester City and manager Pep Guardiola have come to a decision on the striker situation at the Etihad.

Currently, Manchester City only have one proper No.9, i.e. Gabriel Jesus, and hence have to play various players in that position. Players who have played in that position include Kevin De Bruyne, Ferran Torres, Phil Foden and even Raheem Sterling.

Though Manchester City were heavily linked with a move for Harry Kane this summer, that move fell through and left City with a void after legend Sergio Aguero left for Barcelona.

However, according to reports (from the mirror, who are not the most reliable of sources) Guardiola may opt not to sign a new striker once again. He might prioritise a midfield option again instead of going all-out to sign a striker in January.

Sources have linked Manchester City with a move for a range of midfielders including Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric and Kalvin Philips.

Sources have linked Man City with a move for Norwegian talent Erling Haaland, but now it seems like Man City will only look to sign the youngster next season when he will be available for a meagre 68 million Euros.

What Guardiola and Manchester City might do is to follow in the footsteps of cross-city rivals, Manchester United.

United are known to give their youth players expanded opportunities in the first team, something Manchester City have failed to do until Phil Foden. Guardiola may look to shadow neighbours Manchester United by giving the 18-year-old striker Liam Delap (who has been linked with a move in January) a chance.

Man City are known to spend big on signing players rather than promoting youth players. This policy has led to Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz becoming stars of the game elsewhere.
