The Substitutes and Man of The  Match

Rodrigo

Came on for Ilkay Gundogan but had been warming up for about 75 minutes. Tidy but nothing spectacular. Hopefully he will be fit and raring to go against United, in what will be our biggest game of the season so far.

Player Rating 6

Raheem Sterling

Came on in the 53rd minute for Mahrez and did hit the bar, but still a bit off the pace of the game. Needs to return to his best to carry us into the business end of the season.

Player Rating 6

John Stones

This was a useful run out to test his return from injury but whether or not he is ready to face United is unclear to me. I think he is behind Garcia in terms of current form and has a way to go in order to claw back a starting slot.

There were a few candidates in what was probably the dullest 4:0 win I have seen. I thought Cancelo played his best game for City and Gundogan was solid.

However, the game was run by David Silva and for that alone, I believe he deserved the Man of the Match award. Playing this game means he will be unlikely to start against United in mid week. But that may well be a sign that despite our sentimental feelings for him, Silva is nearing the end.

Still, it is worth celebrating his controlled and measured performance which allowed flashes of his past mastery to be on display.
