3) Francis Lee – 14

Signed by Joe Mercer in 1967, Lee played no part in that seasons, short-lived, League Cup campaign. The following season he would play all games but have to wait to get on the scoresheet.

In the League Cup winning season of 1969/70 Lee opened his account with a goal against Southport. He followed that up with goals against Everton and United before seeing City lift the trophy against West Brom.

Although he didn’t score in that game, he was active in front of goal, eventually chipping a ball to Bell in extra time. Bell back heeled to Pardoe who scored the winner.

Eight goals came on the way to the 1974 campaign, which ended in a defeat in the Final to Wolves. Three goals against Walsall was followed by the only goal away to Carlisle. A penalty against York helped City to a 4-1 win, while a brace in the replay with Coventry saw City progress to the Semi Final.

Lee would leave at the end of that season, with his last League Cup goal coming in that 2-0 semi final second leg victory over Plymouth.
