Transfer Target Evaluation — Part 3 of 8 — Right-Back

This is part 3 of my 8 part series featuring the most recent Manchester City transfer target profiles in their respective positions. This particular time I will be analyzing our right-back targets and rate them based on quality and fit within the squad. The season is over, so now it is the time to speculate on our players’ and our target’s futures.

Part 2 featured our left-back targets, and I argued that was our greatest need in the summer. Our next greatest weakness, I believe, is in the right-back position. We saw the great tribute to Pablo Zabaleta this past week, and I don’t think we will ever be able to get a replacement for him. Zabaleta was a true warrior and a perfect man to help lead our squad to triumphs in the time he has spent in Manchester. He will be greatly missed, however, at the moment he is not performing to his greatest abilities and will be moving on this summer. Bacary Sagna, our other right-back has not played for as long as I can remember, and he doesn’t exactly fit the category of a Pep full-back.

With all that being said, below I take a look at our most recent right-back targets. Enjoy!

P.S. There is also another Squawka comparison matrix at the end if you are interested in statistical comparisons.
