The women's European championships showcased its final on Sunday afternoon, where England and Spain went head-to-head for the title.
The women's Euros came to its conclusion on Sunday, after weeks of intense and dramatic fixtures that saw England and Spain make their way to the deciding fixture.
Going into the all-important match, the Lionesses had produced a rather shocking display as they found themselves on the brink of multiple exits, but only to pull off historic comebacks to remain in with a chance of retaining their title.
For Spain, they breezed through the tournament with simple victories, showing their talent difference from their opponents. The hardest game was against Germany, where a 0-0 scoreline took them into extra time. However, Spain got the job done with a 1-0 win. This marked their first time reaching the end of the Euros and put them in with an opportunity of claiming the Euros.
Many expected an unmissable final, with two of the favourites and the world's best teams going head to head. And, the match itself did not fail to disappoint as both sides provided a fitting end to the competition.
Mariona Caldentey was the first scorer of the match, putting Spain ahead going into half-time. England once again found themselves trailing, but once again, did not let it get to them as the second half saw Alexia Russo equalise.
At the end of normal time, it was still a draw, meaning extra time would be played out. By the end of that, there was still no difference.
A penalty shootout was going to be the deciding part in who would become European champions. A first for Spain in these last few weeks, while it was England's second.
The big moment arrived for no other than Chloe Kelly, who had the chance to secure a 3-1 win for England and win the tournament, and that she did as she put away her effort and gave the Lionesses the triumph.
The second Euros victory for England, and most incredibly, their second win in a row. They came into the contest with the aim of defending their title, and while they looked out of sorts at times, they proved their level and again are champions of Europe in quite an amazing fashion.
