The UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final second legs all took place this week, with the final four clubs making their way over to this season's semi-finals.

The quarter-final ties of the Champions League were all completed this week, after the first legs went underway a week prior, with every first fixture ending with a win to take into the return matches.

The first half of these anticipated first legs ended with big results, giving four clubs an advantage coming out of the 90 minutes. Manchester City were surprising 2-0 winners over rivals Chelsea, Arsenal were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid, while Lyon claimed a 2-0 scoreline over Bayern Munich and Barcelona comfortably surpassed Wolfsburg four goals to one.

The deciding games that were played out this week saw exhilarating encounters with twists and turns throughout.

Champions League second-leg results

  • Lyon 4-1 Bayern Munich - Lyon qualify 6-1 on aggregate.
  • Arsenal 3-0 Real Madrid - Arsenal qualify 3-2 on aggregate.
  • Barcelona 6-1 Wolfsburg - Barcelona qualify 10-2 on aggregate.
  • Chelsea 3-0 Manchester City - Chelsea qualify 3-2 on aggregate.

While Lyon and Barcelona added to their initial victories and ended their ties with highly impressive scorelines, the biggest attention goes to the comebacks produced by Arsenal and Chelsea, who went into their matches 2-0 down.

Disappointingly for Real Madrid and Man City, they were unable to maintain their slightly healthy leads and have missed out on the semi-finals.

For Manchester City, they have missed out on their third piece of silverware; adding to the sorrows they've already been subjected to in the Women's Super League and recently the FA League Cup. They still do have a chance of ending this season with a trophy as they have an FA Cup semi-final against rivals Manchester United to prepare for.
