Manchester City took on Aston Villa in Tuesday night's Premier League action beating their top five opponents 2-1 in dramatic fashion.
Manchester City and Aston Villa met in midweek Premier League football, both clubs coming into the fixture with the same aim: the top five.
The race for the season-end top five continues, as the clubs ending in those positions will qualify for the next season of the UEFA Champions League.
Man City and Aston Villa aren't the only two names fighting for the spots, with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea also in with a chance.
Only three out of these five battling sides will end the season with their goal accomplished. This comes down to the top two already being firmly occupied; as Liverpool are set to become League winners shortly and while Arsenal could potentially be caught up with by challenging teams, they remain nine points away from sixth.
For Man City, they started off against Villa with an early goal from Bernardo Silva to give them the lead seven minutes in. The ideal start didn't last too long, however, as Marcus Rashford tucked in a penalty for Villa to equalise.
The match was heading for a 1-1 draw as the 90th minute arrived with both sides level, but in a moment that could have potentially secured the Sky Blues' their return to Europe next season, Matheus Nunes found the back of the net in the 94th minute and sealed Manchester City the 2-1 victory.
City end this month in the Premier League will have a crucial win and three points, with them currently sitting in third place and four points ahead of sixth and seventh place.
Matheus Nunes on his heroic match-winning goal
"It was just a gut feeling that I thought it's the end of the game, I'm going to go for it. Happy I was there. I mean you can't put it in words, can you? It's just something you feel."
"It was very important. It couldn't have come at a better time. Yeah, it was amazing. I meant this was a very tough game and a very tough opponent. We came with the mentality that we needed to win this game."
"We will see at the end of the season how big it will be. Every three points now will be very important. We will go for every game for the three points."
