Manchester City's women's team made their return on Friday night, where they took on rivals and title holders, Chelsea, in their first Women's Super League fixture.

Manchester City women's team played their first game of the WSL in a highly anticipated clash between them and Chelsea to get the league underway.

Heading into the new edition of the WSL, Manchester City had been making crucial alterations in preparation to challenge for the title.

The updates that have been made, such as the arrivals of Iman Beney, Jade Rose and Grace Clinton, among others and also the appointment of Andree Jelgertz as head coach, have all led to one question: how will the Cityzens fair in competitions such as the WSL, FA Cup and League Cup?

However, they weren't able to get off to the start they would have been hoping for as they were defeated 2-1 by Chelsea.

But, the club won't be giving in to any panic as they still have a long way to go and will take this as an opportunity to build going ahead.

Andree Jeglertz spoke about the first game and his thoughts on what they'll take away from the result.

Andree Jeglertz on Manchester City's 2-1 loss

"I thought we deserved more in the game. We had some challenges with how they were playing."

"A lot of things to bring with us, and the key thing for us was to feel we're ready to challenge, which I think we showed in the game."

"It's important with having new ideas and doing new things that it works against the big teams. But at the same time, it's about winning."

"I feel and the players as well that there are a lot of things we can bring with us for the game next week. It's a long season, but we're on our way."
