The UEFA Nations League concluded on Sunday night after an intense match saw Portugal and Spain take it all the way to penalties.

The Nations League final had Portugal taking on Spain in the bid for the title. The epic match continued to the last possible moment, as they headed to a penalty shootout to decide the champion.

It was quite the evening for Sport on Sunday as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner showcased a historic five-set masterpiece in the grand final of Roland-Garros, where Alcaraz claimed the French Open title. After that, viewers hopped straight to the football, where two of Europe's biggest and best teams went head to head for the trophy. Another game that did not disappoint in the slightest.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with the added extra 30 minutes still unable to find a winner. The game had to go to spot kicks, where a total of nine penalties were taken.

The shootout had Portugal score all of their penalties, but Spain were only able to manage three. The full-time score of a 2-2 draw was accompanied by a 5-3 penalty victory for Portugal, making them the winners of 2025.

A dramatic match with a dramatic result, where Portugal became European champions at Spain's expense.

Elsewhere, France, who were defeated 5-4 by Spain in the semi-final, got the better of Germany, beaten by Portugal 2-1 a few days ago, with a comfortable 2-0 victory to earn third place in the competition.

Apart of the winning side were Manchester City's Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, who contributed to their nation's triumph. A highly respectable achievement for the two Cityzens, who will now be heading back to the club for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament, which is set to get underway this weekend.
