Manchester City took on Arsenal in the semi-final of the League Cup on Thursday evening, securing a 2-1 victory to advance to this season's final.

After only meeting Arsenal a few days before the semi-final encounter, Manchester City would have been aiming for a much better result than the one they were subjected to on the weekend in the Women's Super League as they were defeated 4-3 by the Gunners; while a close scoreline, the Cityzens idd moss out on three vital points in which they are in need of.

Going into the semi-final, the Gunners had the edge in terms of confidence and even predictability to go on and win the match.

However, Man City got their noses in front just 26 minutes into the match, thanks to Mary Fowler who produced a beautifully clean strike to put her side ahead.

The next half arrived with the Cityzens leading 1-0, but in the 58th minute, a foul inside the box led to Arsenal; winning a penalty. Mariona stepped up to the spot and was successful in their attempt, it was 1-1.

While City did have an opportunity to go ahead again after the referee awarded them a penalty, disappointment for them Mary Fowler wasn't able to convert the penalty.

Despite missing her penalty, it was still Mary Fowler who saved the day as she struck gold in the 95th minute of added time to finish the match 2-1 for Manchester City.

Man City have sealed their place in the final of the League Cup, where they will be meeting Chelsea, who beat West ham in their fixture 2-0.

Match-winner Mary Fowler

"Something to be really proud of. Arsenal always put up a good fight and they played well tonight."

"I'm super proud of the girls and how we played and just happy to get the win. I was really happy. I felt mostly relief but I was super happy. I've been wanting to win something win the girls for so long, so to be a step closer to doing that is really exciting."

"I'm really excited for that (The final). I haven't played in a final yet with the girls, so it'll be a new feeling for me here. But think we're ready for it, and I'm just super pumped for it."

Gareth Taylor pleased with performance

"It was great. I felt it was a nice moment for us to celebrate. Think the players really deserve that after their performance tonight. Sometimes you don't get it, but I felt if we were going to go into extra time, I really fancied us to get a goal. We showed good character."

"We surrendered a bit of possession to Arsenal in periods, but I thought the character that the team showed and especially Mary, and because she had the real bit between her teeth and it didn't really affect her, the penalty, which is a sign of a top player."

"But I think she gave so much to the team tonight. Everyone really worked hard to get us over the line."
