Manchester City suffered a monumental defeat on Sunday evening as they took on Arsenal in the Premier League, and were defeated 5-1.
Manchester City just don't seem able to get back on the right track this season. After their hard-fought 3-1 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League earlier in the week and also their win against Chelsea, it was thought that Man City could turn over a new page after those two significant victories.
However, Man City continue to struggle and could have possibly just faced their worst result of the season as they were defeated 5-1 by Arsenal.
Less than two minutes into the match, Martin Odegaard put the Gunners up a goal; the quick goal definitely knocking City's confidence down a peg.
The scoreline remained the same for the first 45 minutes despite the quick start, but 10 minutes after the start of the second half, it was Erling Haaland who equalised for the Cityzens, giving them hope to go and get something out of the encounter.
But the relief didn't last too long as only two minutes later Arsenal came back in front.
There was then a fourth goal of the match, and it fell for Arsenal who then made it 3-1 through Lewis-Skelly, who honoured the goal with Haaland's signature celebration.
Kai Havertz added to Arsenal's scoreline and so did Nwaneri, giving the Gunners a huge 5-1 win over Manchester City and they move into six points of leaders Liverpool.
For Manchester City, this disastrous outcome sees them once again miss out on three very vital points. While they do remain in the top four, on equal amount of points as Newcastle and one ahead of Chelsea and Bournemouth, they are six away from Nottingham Forest on third, nine from Arsenal and 14 from Liverpool.
It's very unrealistic to believe City are even contenders for this season's Premier League, as their main priority will be to finish in the top and remain in the Champions League next season, but they are struggling to do so.
Pep Guardiola on the loss
"I only regret the last 25 minutes, we forgot to do what we should do, what we have done for 65/70 minutes. Of course, it; 's a difficult game, against that team in the first few minutes it's happened many times this season."
"But after 10/15 minutes, I think we took the game and played really, really, really, really good and we are in it after 1-1 and good momentum."
"But after that, we then continued to do what you have to do in terms of defensively and a little more patient. When you're playing that way they can run and of course, at 3-1 they are comfortable, it; 's more difficult."
"I regret the last 15/20 minutes, the rest was a really good game for our side. It's difficult to understand when you see the result, but this is my feeling."
"It's happened all season, we are giving away too many things, we are aware this cannot happen, it happened. But we reacted really well, and we played with personality and we defended as good and then with the ball we were a threat but unfortunately after the second happened, again many times we had the momentum."
"You have to overcome, you cannot lose the control, it's 90/95 minutes. You cannot finish in the way we played, we could've scored three more. We had a plan but we did not do it because they have pride and they want to solve it, but that is not the way."
"We will reflect and talk with the players and hopefully it won't happen again."
