Manchester City’s women’s team's task in the Women’s Super League, where they faced Liverpool, saw them claim a 2-1 win.
Manchester City women’s team went into the latest Women’s Super League match weekend with the aim of getting themselves the three points.
Going into this fixture, due to Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Tottenham, Manchester City’s attempt to defeat Liverpool would have been greater. Elsewhere, Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Everton saw them go past the Sky Blues, another scenario that would have made Manchester City's aim even more bigger.
Going into the next 45 minutes with a 0-0 draw, Liverpool were the ones to get themselves a 1-0 lead. Manchester City would go on to keep fighting to get themselves level, and it didn't take too long as Iman Beney equalised.
It did look as if both sides were going to have to accept a draw, but late on, Aoba Fujino found the winner for Manchester City and claimed a 2-1 win.
For Liverpool, they remain without any points in the WSL, but for Manchester City, they go back to being one point ahead of Manchester United and one away from Chelsea.
Their next game will be in the FA League Cup against Newcastle, and then it will be international break for the women. The Women’s Super League will be back in a few weeks.
There was plenty of reaction from Andree Jeglertz, who spoke about the crucial win for Manchester City.
Andree Jeglertz on the 2-1 victory
“It was hard, but at the same time, I think we lacked energy. When they scored, I felt we’re really doing things a bit sharper.”
“But, that says something about the team, that no matter what, not everything is perfect but we’re still winning. We’ve come from a goal down and got a win.”
Laura Blindkilde Brown speaks about Manchester City
“We pushed and pushed in the next half and managed to get the goals in the end. As a team, we never give up.”
“Whoever comes on always contributes, and it’s just a great feeling within the team."

The league standings feature a very close race between several sides, potentially setting the WSL up for a massive title race this season.
For Manchester City, if they are to have a proper chance of winning the title, they must remain claiming positive results no matter which opponent is thrown at them.
So far, they've done a good job of doing so, but they have to keep doing the same and get these wins as the league goes on.
