The annual game of the Community Shield for the upcoming 24/25 season has had its date confirmed for Manchester City and Manchester United in a few months.
The Community Shield is a fixture that features the Premier League winner and FA Cup winner of the previous season, and as we know, it was Man City who claimed a historic fourth Premier League title in a row. The FA Cup was slightly missed out by the Cityzens, who lost 2-1 to rivals United.
This game comes with a starter of the season ahead, and the date that must be booked in the calendar has been announced to everyone waiting.
The game will fall on Saturday, the 10th of August - about six weeks or so from now.
For Manchester City, there will be a triple layering of reasons they will want to win the Community Shield, adding to the more obvious reason, which is simply wanting to win a trophy.
Last year, Man City missed out on lifting the Community Shield after penalty drama with a 1-1 result in normal time to Arsenal, who featured in this game due to being second on the previous Premier League table, as City did indeed win both the PL and FA Cup in their famous treble winning year.
Another element will be the fact they finished their 24/24 season with a loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup, despite being the clear favourites. While they were in no situation where trophies were required to prove anything, after winning the Premier League, Super Cup and Club World Cup, the idea of going out in the Champions League quite earlier on definitely would have added the impact of wanting to win the FA Cup. Therefore, Man City will most definitely be looking for revenge on their opponent, and starting their new year off with a great start.
And then the third reason will be getting another victory over rivals Man United. Yes, this may be quite similar to the former one but getting revenge on losing out on a cup is one thing, but to your biggest rivals is another.
Last season, Man City won both of their PL encounters with United, scoring a total of six goals overall and only conceding one (3-0 and 3-1). But, as mentioned, they did face a defeat and it did come in a huge final. So, it will be safe to say that City would love to start their new season off with a win over United.
