One of the most exciting derbies in football takes place this coming weekend, as Manchester City face Manchester United in a fixture that could make a difference to both clubs' season.

Man City returned to the Women's Super League last Sunday and claimed a 4-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. This win gave the squad a much-needed confidence boost after their elimination from the Conti Cup and the FA Cup.

Man City remains in first place alongside Chelsea, who overcame Arsenal with a 3-1 win. This is a disappointing result for the Gunners, whose title hopes look very unlikely now, and also for City, who could have had first spot all to themselves if Arsenal had done the job.

Now, City will need to carry on winning games and scoring goals, as it looks like the winner could possibly be crowned on goal difference.

Manchester United is aiming to claim a Champions League ticket for next season. They currently have 28 points, six behind Arsenal, but more importantly, Liverpool has the same number of points as United, meaning a win over City would be highly crucial for the Red Devils.

With Man City's hope of a treble now over, the WSL has all of Gareth Taylor's focus and preparation; this squad is more than capable of winning the title at the end of the season. However, going head-to-head against Chelsea and even going down right to the last matchday will require nothing but excellence from the Sky Blues.

Every name has become a vital player for City this season, each playing a huge role in completing the puzzle, including Spanish international Laia Aleixandri, who spoke about the upcoming encounter with Man United in a few days.

"I can't wait," she started, expressing her excitement about the task, "I think it's going to be very special for the team. With the fans, it's going to be amazing for sure, and hopefully, we can win the three points."

"In these games we are going to experience difficult moments as a team because they are a good, top team, so we need to know how to manage these moments and come through them."

"We are ready to compete in these types of matches."
