Stefan Ortega Moreno has officially extended his stay with Manchester City, as the goalkeeper's journey with the Cityzens prepares to continue for seasons to come.
The 31-year-old joined Man City back in 2022 and has been a part of the club's historic treble, which included the club's first-ever Champions League title and even lifted the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
So far, Ortega Moreno has made 34 appearances for City in two seasons and played a vital role in City's four-in-a-row Premier League quest since Ederson missed many games due to injuries; Stefan confidently stepped up in his teammate's absence and produced commendable performances.
Now, Manchester City have announced that the goalkeeper has signed a new deal which keeps him as a Sky Blue until 2026.
When the news was confirmed, Stefan Ortega Moreno shared his first words on the new deal and his time at the club so far,
"What happened in these two years is incredible. We've won a lot of trophies, the treble last year since I've been there we just keep breaking records and records, so it's good to be a part of this group."
"It's a special group, I was a bit scared of how the team is, how the players are and the staff around them. From day one in this building, you're just happy because everyone is so friendly. They will try to help you. They are all different but it's so fun to join them every day."
"I'm really happy because I think the first year was quite good, it was just one of the targets to hold a level and try to grow a bit more. I was happy after; the games (Last season) because I would say I was maybe just a little bit better than last season."
Stefan then changed the subject to address his personal aims he wants to achieve during this time with City,
"I want to try to get the number one spot, this is why I signed for Man City. I want to do the same like the two years before, try to win a lot of trophies but enjoy life as well because life is short sometimes to not enjoy life."
During his interview, Ortega did mention his hopes to achieve the spot as the number one goalkeeper, as he currently remains as the second choice. While Ederson will most likely continue his role at the club, it's possible Ortega may end up claiming first place as Ederson has been linked with moves away from Man City.
While it can be considered that Man City will indeed keep their starting goalie, a transfer to the Saudi League will not be ruled as it could be an option Man City might take up.
Despite that scenario, Ortega Moreno will be guaranteed game time next season, as the player has shown his worth and ability to take place on the big occasions, but just slight improvements which will occur with more time will be something the club will want to see from him.
