"Meetings are useless!" Pep reflects on hectic Man City schedule
By Hidayah Ali
Manchester City return to club football this coming weekend after an intentional break for the players, who were called up to represent their nations.
Manchester City resume premier league action on Saturday, the 14th of September, in a meeting with Brentford and will aim to keep their perfect record going, while adding to keep their spot at the top of the table.
However, the topic surrounding the club's hectic schedule has arisen once again, prompting manager Pep Guardiola to discuss how he plans on working with the overload of games one after the other.
What Pep Guardiola had to say
"It's going to happen in many cases, many times (this will be) the situation for teams who play all competitions."
"The alternative was Thursday and if we'd been away in London would have meant more days. We have a game against Newcastle, so of course to have more rest for Newcastle (is better)."
"We play Tuesday because we can't play Wednesday - Manchester United play in Europa League. Itv happened many times, it's going to happen more and it is impossible to fix the calendar."
"It's normal to happen. People say players and managers complain, but it's about their health. Doctors say they have to recover in four or five days, but more often it's three then two. We will do our job and we love to do it. "
"Play the Champions League and then against Arsenal on Sunday. Not an easy game, then after two days we have to do it. I'm not a specialist about the calendar, I'm not here to create the competitions and schedule. It's not going to change -meetings are useless- they decide to do it. Everyone knows the schedule will be tight. In the end, it won't be a problem."
"I don't know if we will have 20 players available, I don't want to make Tuesday to try to play players who played arsenal, hopefully, we can be fit.
The dilemma of the football calendar remains a talking point, and for managers and their players, it remains a worrisome subject as it seems that rest days are becoming less and less.
And for clubs like Man City, who have the luxury of competing in all competitions available to them, this makes it an issue for these sides who have commitments in anot three or four leagues.
However, as Pep mentioned himself, the fixture calendar is something that isn't something to change anytime soon.
