Manchester City have gotten off to the perfect start in their UEFA Women's Champions League qualifier against Paris FC in the first leg of their tie, beating them with an astonishing 5-0 result.
Manchester City started off their Champions League journey on Wednesday evening with a qualifier round tie against Paris FC.
The Cityzen's chance at booking themselves a place in the group stage of the upcoming season of the Champions League is looking very positive after the 5-0 thrashing of Paris FC.
When the tie was drawn, it did seem as if Man City had a difficult task ahead of them in securing a group stage place when Paris FC were announced. The opposition had made quite the mark over the last year or so, from condifeednt performances and results over PSG to shocking results such as knocking out Arsenal and Wolfsburg on their way to last season's group stage.
While Man City were still considered favourites going into the fixture, many would not have predicted the score that the Sky Blues were able to produce as they go into the second leg five goals up.
The goals for this win were scored by Chleo Kelly and Mary Fowler, as well as a brace for Jess Park and one for new recruit Vivienne Miedema.
While there still remains 90 minutes left of this fixture, it's extremely likely that Man City have done enough to seal the deal against Paris FC.
Manager Gareth Taylor shared his delight over the crucial win for his squad.
Gareth Taylor on the big win
"Once we scored the first goal, the confidence was there throughout the team, and we dominated. I thought there was some fabulous football. We had some moments before and they had some breakaways but once we got that goal, it was really settled and within a couple of minutes, there was the second from Jess where the combination was top."
"It was a really good performance from us and we've been rewarded with the result. A good victory for us and we're looking forward to what's next."
For Manchester City, their attention will shift to the Women's Super League, as their opening game against potential title opponents Arsenal, this coming weekend.
The Gunners played a pivotal role in deciding who were crowned champions of the League last season after they took away three points from Man City in a late turn around which saw them win 2-1 and eventually became the reason City did not win the League.
Man City will be hoping to start their new League season off to the same start as their Champions League campaign, but we can expect an incredibly tense and exciting encounter between two of the biggest clubs.
Man City Square prediction:
Arsenal 2-2 Manchester City
