English press reports suggest that Manchester City is interested in acquiring a young player from the Italian national team, who was involved in a sad incident during Italy's recent match against Spain.
Spain defeated Italy 1-0 with a goal mistakenly scored by Italy's defender Riccardo Calafiori in his own net on Thursday, in the second round of Group B of "Euro 2024" currently being held in Germany.
The English newspaper "The Athletic" reported that Manchester City is interested in signing the young Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori to strengthen their defense in the future, which already boasts many excellent names.
The report indicated that the Premier League champion is not the only one interested in Calafiori (22 years old), as it also mentions that Thiago Motta, the former Bologna coach who recently took charge of Juventus, wants to bring the player with him to his new experience.
The newspaper also noted that Bayern Munich has shown interest in the Italian player and inquired about the possibility of signing him during the current summer transfer window to bolster their defense after Vincent Kompany took over.
"The Athletic" confirmed that Bologna would not oppose selling Calafiori, but the offer must be substantial, especially since the defender's transfer deal from his former team Basel in Switzerland to Bologna includes a clause for a (40 or 50%) resale percentage.
Manchester City's history with players coming from Italy is relatively limited, with the most notable being former striker Mario Balotelli, who joined the club under Italian coach Roberto Mancini and left after a short period.
