The European Championships came to an end on Sunday night, with a close encounter between Spain and England deciding the winner of this edition of the tournament.

Manchester City have had quite a well-represented tournament, with a total of 14 players participating with their national teams. They've had the luxury of having a Cityzen player in every stage of the competition - and even having four in the grand final.

Phil Foden, John Stones, and Kyle Walker all started for England, while Rodri was present for Spain, but wasn't able to continue the whole game after being substituted during halftime.

Goalless between two fighting sides in the first 45 minutes, the beginning of the second half saw Lamine Yamal link up with Nico Williams, who scored the opening goal of the game, giving Sapin a 1-0 lead.

Kobbie Mainoo made way for former Manchester City player Cole Palmer, who brought England back into the game after a strike from distance making it 1-1.

With only five minutes before the 90th minute, it looked as if we were set for extra time and even a possibility of penalties. But, Real Sociedad's Mikel Oyarzabal was the hero of the night as he found the back of the net in the 86th minute - giving Spain a 2-1 lead and eventually, the champion's title.

Once again, England men's team will see their wait for a trophy go on even longer. After England's campaign in the Euros wasn't at all convincing from the word go, a runner's up medal is what they'll have to settle with for a second time in a row.

As for Spain, their new generation of players have finally gotten the team's name engraved into the history books - and trophy - after a while of not making it to the highest stages they would have liked. But now, the La Rojas are champions of Europe and many can agree, that they claim this title very deservingly so.

Manchester City's Champions League-winning hero, Rodri, spoke after his team's huge triumph, "It's the best feeling I've had in my life. I was so sad for the injury, but how they overcame the situation was unbelievable. After this season, where I gave a lot of minutes, I gave everything and tried to give the best of myself. Now we've made history, I have no words."

"The courage of this team, what we've done, the teams we've beaten and the character we've shown, this talks about the mentality of the team."

"We want more, we've made history and will build a legacy forever but we want more. I trusted my teammates. What we saw was that the mentality of us was great. Of course, it was difficult but we never lost faith."

Rodri then went on to describe the Spanish team as not just a national team, but a 'team'.

Spain had quite the run on their way to the trophy; winning their group which contained the likes of Italy, Croatia and Albania without dropping a single point, an incredible 4-1 thrashing of Georgia, then knocking out hosts Germany 2-1 in extra time, another 2-1 win in the semi-finals against France and then of course, the late 2-1 win over England.

With the Euros now over, we can start to prepare for the start of the new club football season - which is now only a month away.
