Manchester City and Ilkay Gündogan have recently reached an agreement for a free transfer that will mean that the German, who recently retired from the international team ,will rejoin the club yet again. As per, Pol Ballús - journalist for The Athletic. He also reported that he has an option to extend for another year if he wishes. He will give up his remaining 2 years contract at Barcelona. This became 3 years after he played 60% of their games last season.

Nobody expected this to occur , I was shocked when I saw the news. When he left after the Champions League victory in 2023 , when he joined Barcelona I expected him to stay there for 2 years but he struggled to settle in Catalonia. Last season,  he created the most chances in La Liga according to WhoScored.com. Last season, he got 19 goals and assists for Barcelona.

This transfer will enable Manchester City, to have solid squad depth in the centre of midfielder. He can play at Defensive Midfield , which can help Rodri's fitness. He can play at False 9 - this will occur if no other striker join the club as Erling Haaland will need rest during the season. Julian Alvarez recently left the club for Atletico Madrid.

I can sense that Gündogan will be pleased to be back home , at a club where he won an ocean of trophies. His wife, who he married in 2022 , has said that in Manchester she had “her own life and routine”. She was sad when Gündogan decided to joi Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano has given this deal a “here we go “ . Contract will be until June 2025. Agreement happened in the last 2 days and Pep Guardiola is happy with the transfer. It will be a free transfer.

In the last few hourhours, it has been reported that the German is expected to be in Manchester by 17:30 PM. As per ,Carlos Monfort's tweet . Also, as per Adrià Albets an announcement for the transfer should be made tomorrow.
