Manchester City's hope for a pre-season trophy did not go to plan as they missed out on winning the Perth Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester City booked their place in the final of the new pre-season tournament after a penalty shootout decider with Women's Super League side Leicester City.

It was a rather deflating loss for the Cityzens, who could have taken the game the extra mile with the 90th minute looking to approach and the score still goalless, but before then, PSG were awarded a penalty after a foul committed on Tara Elimibi Gilbert by Kerstin Casparji. PSG's Echegini simply put away her penalty, giving Paris the 1-0 victory in Australia.

Manchester City will find disappointment in the outcome, but manager Gareth Taylor insists that there are many positives that his squad can take away from their game.

"We know that we have to do the difficult part, putting the ball in the back of the net but I thought our play was outstanding tonight. From the goalkeeper all the way up to the final third we were top-class."

"They're (PSG) a very good team but we completely dominated. Some of the football we played was top and we can take heart from that."

"We were done by refeerring decisions, we should have had a penalty in the first half. Of course, we should for all of the players we had, make more of our opportunities but we've had one taken from us with that referring decision. That's tough to take."

"Outside of that, I think the girls have been top. Considering we're only two games in it's incredible, I've just said that to the girls imagine if we were four or five games in. I'm excited about the football we played."

The Cityzen manager showed a really positive attitude despite the loss they faced, as he does mention some good points to take away from the overall performance.

Man City have started off well in these last two games, and even though they don't bring a trophy home, the squad won't be too fixated on that and instead, should be focusing on building on the strong start they've made to become exactly were they want to be for next season.

The Women's Super League is only a few weeks away and Manchester City will require another good display but, with no doubt, improvements if they are to win three points when they meet Arsenal in the first matchday of the season.
