City cruise past Bristol in 4-0 win & go six points ahead of title rivals

The Women's Super League comes to its near end and Manchester City's recent 4-0 win over Bristol City takes the Cityzens six points at the top of the table. 

With Chelsea missing their last two WSL games due to the Women's Champions League, where they suffered a 2-1 elimination to Barcelona; City have been given the opportunity to gain a lead over the Blues, and while Chelsea will have the chance to make up the points, the air of confidence knowing your opponents need to catch up with you is something the Cityzens have taken from this. 

It was confirmed a few days ago that Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw would be unavailable for the remainder of the season, and that was enough to add to the nerves that the supporters will be experiencing. 

The result against Bristol was easily taken care of by Shaw's teammates, especially Mary Fowler who secured a brace on Sunday evening. 

Gareth Taylor reflected on his team's performance, speaking to Sky Sports he said, "Our second half performance I thought was very, very good. I thought we were really quite poor in the first half - we were sure lethargic and a bit flat. We adjusted some things at half-time. We spoke about body language, the intensity of our play. We have to give credit to Bristol City, they were very good."

"We had to really find some quality to really unlock the door, but Mary's goal is a great goal from the middle. She did so well for the second goal after a great out from Lauren (Hemp)."

"At half-time, I'd have been happy with 1-0, I really would have, so to come. I thought we were much better in the second half."

This was the Cityzens final fixture of the month, and now only have two games remaining before the end of the League season. 

The most noticeable task will be the one against Arsenal, a result that will either make or break City - a victory would really cement the squad in a prime position to claim the title, but a loss would pretty much end their hopes. 

Chelsea have the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Man United in their list of remaining games in the League, and while they will be considered the favourites in all of those mentioned, it won't be all plain sailing. 

For Manchester City, their focus cannot be on the results produced by Chelsea, but rather on their own performances; with City on 52 points and superior goal difference at the moment, they need to build on that and if they can do so, they might just surpass Chelsea to glory. 

Next up for Manchester City, is the big one; Arsenal. They will meet each other this coming Sunday, which will be their third fixture with one another, the first ending in a 2-1 win for the Gunners and the other in a 1-0 win for Man City.
