Pep Guardiola shares thoughts about John Stones's arguable match-winning goal

Manchester City returned to club football over the weekend, playing in the eighth week of the Premier League 24/25 season.

Manchester City took on 20th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in their eighth fixture of the Premier League season, with the aim of continuing their quest of going to the top of the table.

The Cityzens were pegged back very early into the fixture, with Wolves's Strand giving his team the 1-0 lead, with just seven minutes on the clock.

Man City weren't fazed by the early goal for their opposition and would continue to dominate the game despite trailing behind. However, in the 33rd minute, Josko Gvardiol equalised for the Sky Blues making it 1-1 whilst going into halftime.

With a total of 18 corners for City throughout the course of the game, it was the 18th one that came in the 95th minute and saw John Stones -again- become the hero and net away the goal that secured Man City a 2-1 victory and the three points for the table.

While Stones's goal was checked by VAR due to Bernardo Silva potentially being in an offside position and then being questioned about being interfering in the goalkeeper's view and play, the goal still stood and City went to the top of the Premier League table (for a few hours, that is).

Elsewhere, Arsenal shockingly lost 2-0 to Bournemouth, now leaving a three-point gap between them and City, Aston Villa beat Fulham 3-1 putting them also on 17 points like the Gunners and Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 to go back to the top of the table, with one-extra point than Man City.

Pep Guardiola reaction

"This is not the last fixture of the season but of course, it's so important. We are not used to winning that way. Like other teams, we have big talent and we don't often win in the last minutes."

"The moment the linesman raised the flag, I said 'But it's a corner, you cannot be offside'. From John, (Wolves goalkeeper Jose) is watching perfectly the action."

"To get the favour of winning this way is so nice. The impact of the players from the bench and we were patient. We have to deal with the way that teams defend so deep—literally 11 players in the box. I said to the players please don't judge. It belongs to us to break them down. When you play Tottenham, they play in different way and it's fine. Every time it's getting better, knowing that it is so difficult."

"I don't like it," Pep stated when talking about City having to come from behind in a few Premier League games this season, "But, we start really well. After that first transition, we make good crosses. Of course, I don't like it but I would be more concerned if we didn't start with the right tone to compete in these types of games. That is football and we will be better. These kinds of difficulties make us a better team."
