Manchester City's Premier League hopes look to be getting lower and lower, with the defending champions losing 2-0 to Liverpool, making it their seventh winless game in a row.

Manchester City suffered their sixth defeat in seven fixtures, as they fell short to leaders Liverpool 2-0 on sunday. The Cityzens were outperformed the entire first half, going 1-0 behind just more than 10 minutes into the game as Cody Gakpo put his team ahead. The second haw saw City improve immensely, however, it didn't count for anything because a Mohammed Salah penalty secured the victory and the three points.

Liverpool are now comfortably in first place, 11 points away from City and nine away from Arsenal and Chelsea. Man City, they remain on 23 points and and themselves in fifth place.

While we know it's only December and there remains many months until the final day of the season, it's safe to say that the Reds will be feeling very confident about how the rest of their Premier League will pan out.

For Manchester City, it will be the opposite. Not only are they miles away from their usual first spot, but they also struggle to stay in the top four. The Sky Blues have proved their capabilities to achieve incredible things, however, this will be a huge moutnain to climb if they are to turn things around.

Pep Guardiola on another City loss

"First, I would like to congratulate Liverpool on a well-deserved win. I saw how Ruben (Dias) came back, and how good Nathan (Ake) controlled Salah. I want the team back, I want the players back. Three or four players came back and the feeling from here is we started to build something."

"From here we're going to try to build, win gamed and regain our confidence. Then we are a team and it's fantastic. I'm sitting here defending what we defend these players give everything. "

"I have to find a solution to try to win games. If we gave up and are not consistent, you go home with a terrible result. The team was there all the time."

Ruben Dias's take on Man City's troubles

"It is obviously not the easiest period but we're made for this. It was a difficult game today, it was always going to be in our best moments and has been since I've been here, even in our best moments - this has always been tough (playing Liverpool) and even more now in our circumstances."

"I am seeing through it and I saw a lot of character today and that is something that gives me a good feeling for what is ahead. Winning is all about that. We have a lot of winners in our dressing room. In times like this, it is all about mentality and keep on going and pushing and thinking one game at a time."

"Nottingham Forest is all that is on our mind and we want to win and that is how you break it. Today I saw little things that will help us move forward. This is just part of our legacy. We've won so much and till we are where we are and this happens."

"These tough moments never stop coming in football. That is why we win again and again, we've been able to be versatile, adapt and keep on moving forward and thinking one game at a time."

"That is what we need to get back to. This is all about our legacy and building that and believing in it. We'll see where we are at the end of the season. Now is just Nottingham forest, Nottingham forest, Nottingham forest."
