Having earned important victories in their English Premier League and FA Cup matches in April, Manchester City now potentially find themselves in contention to finish the season with a domestic treble. The Sky Blues won all three of their EPL games and both of their FA Cup fixtures during the month, putting them in a strong position to earn additional silverware this season.
After defeating Arsenal in the 2025/2026 Carabao Cup Final in March, Manchester City have continued to perform well in the EPL and the FA Cup competitions. Results elsewhere in the EPL and FA Cup now see Manchester City fighting with Arsenal for the top spot in the EPL table, where, as of 24 April, the Sky Blues were level on points, games played, results (wins, draws, losses), and goal difference.
Arsenal have played one more Premier League game than Manchester City, putting the Gunners up to three points clear of City. Meanwhile, in the FA Cup, Manchester City defeated Southampton in the semi-final, meaning City will play in their fourth consecutive FA Cup Final.
Man City are on the verge of history... Or being average
The job is not over for the 2025/2026 season. Should Manchester City win their remaining five EPL matches, then they will likely be the champions of this season’s EPL campaign. Meanwhile, they are one victory away from winning the FA Cup this season.
In other words, it is all to play for in May. This month, the Sky Blues will play six matches across two competitions. They will participate in the EPL and the FA Cup.
Manchester City will begin the month of May with a visit to Liverpool to face Everton. The match will be held on Monday, 4 May. This will be a difficult encounter, as the Toffees and the Sky Blues have had close matches in recent seasons. There will also be additional pressure on Manchester City to deliver. They will have played two matches fewer than Arsenal, meaning the Sky Blues will try to better the Gunners' results by this period.
Following this EPL match, Manchester City will return home to host Brentford. The game will be played on Saturday, 9 May. Like Everton, Brentford have also had close matches with Manchester City over the past few seasons.
After this game, it is unclear what lies ahead for Manchester City. Given their progression in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup this season, they will have to reschedule two EPL matches, where the games in question will be at home against Crystal Palace and away to Bournemouth.
Given the EPL season ends on 24 May, one of these two games in hand may be played in the middle of the week during this period. The other game in hand may be scheduled after the FA Cup Final, although this is all to be determined.
Regardless of what unfolds in the EPL schedule, the Sky Blues will eventually focus their attention on their match in Wembley Stadium. They will travel to London to play in the 2025/2026 FA Cup Final. The match will be played on Sunday, 17 May.
Manchester City are the first team in English history to reach the FA Cup Final for four consecutive seasons (though in their previous three appearances in the final, they only won the competition during the 2022/2023 season). Having already won the Carabao Cup, Manchester City will be eager to win another trophy this season.
Following the conclusion of the FA Cup Final, and depending on how the EPL fixtures are rescheduled, Manchester City will eventually find themselves at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Their final match this term will be at home against Aston Villa. The game will be played on Sunday, 24 May. Depending on how Manchester City performs in their other EPL matches this month, and depending on how Arsenal performs this month, it is possible that Manchester City could win the league. But time will tell if that will be the case.
Overall, this will be a pivotal month for Manchester City this season. Should they perform well, then they could find themselves with a domestic treble by the end of the 2025/2026 season. If they do not win their remaining six games this campaign, however, then it is likely they will have to settle for the Carabao Cup trophy.
Regardless of what unfolds this month, the newly reformed and refreshed Manchester City squad has shown serious caliber and will be ready to challenge any team for silverware in future seasons.
