By Hidayah Ali
Manchester City will be playing their third UEFA Champions League fixture this week, taking on Hammarby in matchday three as the cityzens hope to build on the positive start they've made to the competition's group stage.
After a great result during the weekend, as Manchester City defeated Tottenham 4-0 thanks to a hattrick from Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw and then a goal from Dutch international Jill Roord, City remain at the op of the omen's Super League table, one point ahead of chelsea.
Now, attention back to their champions league group, where they are also at the top standings, and they meet Hammarby in matchday three of the competition.
On matchday one, Man City found themselves achieving a huge victory over defending champions Barcelona, winning 2-0. Goals came from Naomi Layzell and Khadija 'Bunny Shaw. Elsewhere, Hammarby were also 2-0 winners against their opponents, St. Polten.
The second instalment had Man City take on St. Polten and it was a tough game for the Sky Blues who had to fight until the very end to win 3-2 over the Austrian side. For Hammarby, it was a terrible result as they were thrashed 9-0 by the Catalans Barcelona.
Despite the huge defeat suffered by Hammaby when meeting the elite Barcelona, Gareth Taylor has insisted that Hammarby will be a big threat towards them earning three points.
Gareth Taylor on Hammarby
"I felt in that game they were still committing and engaging and trying to be aggressive. We've seen an aggressive game from them - the St. Polten game was fast-paced, both teams attacking a lot and a lot of attacking transition and defensive transitions. I don't expect many changes with that."
"I spoke about the barcelona in the press conference after we beat them and said the reaction from them would be good. Why? They're the champions and this is why they've won a lot."
"I said their reaction will be to regroup very quickly. The way they went out and literally hammered Hammabry was impressive. Not surprised by that by any means."
"Do I expect the same game tomorrow? Probably not because we know sometimes the margin will be very tight. It (9-0 result) was misleading Hammarby but not misleading Barcelona. They're more than capable of doing that."
"Do I expect the type of outcome tomorrow? No, I don't. Are we trying to do that? Of course. we want to replicate what Barca have done over the last few years, which is really tough. we're on the journey to try to get to that level."
