Manchester City begin their 2026-27 Premier League season tomorrow against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium.

A week on from their humiliating 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield, the Sky Blues are hoping for a much better result here against the Cherries as Enzo Maresca takes charge of his first league game as their manager.

He has the enviable task of ending City's two-year top-flight title drought and the result tomorrow will give us a glimpse into their preparedness for a long and punishing league run ahead.

Bournemouth famously ended their title pursuit last season by holding City to a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium that officially confirmed Arsenal as league winners.

The Cherries will be hoping for similar fortunes at the daunting Etihad stadium on Sunday and claim a huge scalp in the opening fixture of the new season.

Here are some fascinating key battles to look forward to in the clash:

1) Erling Haaland vs Antonio Silva

Antonio Silva is all set for his Premier League debut tomorrow with Bournemouth after arriving on a £25million transfer from Benfica. And he couldn't have asked for a tougher assignment to begin with, as the centre-back will come up against none other than Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian isn't only a prolific scorer, but can twist and turn a defense with his swift movements while also possessing remarkable aerial prowess. Silva will have the Herculean task of dealing with his physicality, hold-up play and electric speed, succeeding in which could hand the Cherries a better chance of getting something out of the match.

2) Elliot Anderson vs Alex Scott

Manchester City's most expensive purchase in history gears up for his first Premier League appearance with the club here and could be slotting straight into Rodri's role as the Spaniard has departed for FC Barcelona.

He will come up against Bournemouth's midfield metronome Alex Scott, who has interestingly been linked with a move to City this summer. His ball-carrying ability will be crucial in linking midfield to attack, while Anderson will be tasked with dictating tempo from his deep-lying playmaker role for City.

3) Antoine Semenyo vs Adrien Truffert

With Jeremy Doku out for two weeks and Savinho joining Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City are left suddenly left short of natural wingers. Given his versatility, Antoine Semenyo could be handed a start on the right against his former club.

It promises an interesting player battle between him and Bournemouth's another new arrival, Adrien Truffert. Semenyo's high press and direct runs is sure to hand Truffert a baptism by fire on his league debut for the Cherries.
