Manchester City took on Newcastle in their second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. After having a 2-0 scoreline, they added a 3-1 victory to book themselves into the final.
Manchester City have gotten the job done against Newcastle, as they claim a 5-1 aggregate to set up a meeting with Arsenal in a bid for the honour.
The Cityzens have their proper first chance of gaining a title this season, as they compete in multiple competitions, and the Carabao Cup becomes a massive prospect for them.
It was Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki who gave Man City their 2-0 lead in the initiation meeting, and this gave them a big result to protect on Wednesday.
And it was quick for more to be added to this score, with Tijjani Reijnders and Omar Marmoush with a double, making it five, while Elanga got Newcastle one for the board. A crucial win that sends Manchester City into the last match.
Elsewhere, Arsenal and Chelsea’s result was a 3-2 victory for the Gunners. While Arsenal attempted to remain ahead, Chelsea were looking to turn things around. It was 0-0 for almost the entire match, until a 97th-minute goal from Kai Havertz claimed a 4-2 triumph for the Premier League leaders.
This sets up a fixture between Arsenal, who are at the top of the PL, and Manchester City, who are currently on second. It will be quite the task for these sides.
For Man City, this will be incredibly vital. Even though they are in the FA Cup and Champions League, while also competing in the League despite their gap being rather large, if they can gain victory in this contest, it could be a big step in their term and might be able to add to their potential in achieving the others.
Also, this will be many players' first appearance in a final with their new club, this includes the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki. It will be a massive moment for all of them as they help guide their team to fulfilment. Nico Gonzalez and Marmoush are among the list of possibly winning their debut honour with City.
Manager Pep shared his views after full-time.
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola on the result
“I’m pleased. It’s not for granted, I know how difficult it is.”
“For many of us, myself included, I’m happy to come back. And for players that have not been in the final of the Carabao Cup.”
“It’s a good thing to experience against maybe the best team in Europe of the world right now for many reasons, the way they play and the stats. It will be good for us.”
“Hopefully, we try to arrive with everyone fit and ready, and we can make a game against them.”
“You have to be consistent over two games, and we were good. What I like the most is that we started like it was 0-0. It was 2-0, but we didn't play to control what we won there; it was completely opposite.”
