Manchester City started the 2025/2026 season with mixed results against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham, and Brighton and Hove Albion.

But there is no need for Manchester City supporters to panic. The senior squad has undergone serious changes during the 2025 transfer window, with several veteran players departing and new individuals joining the club. It will take time for the latest squad to learn how to play together, and they will need to develop their skills.

During their first three matches, Manchester City defeated Wolves 4-0, then were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham and then, a 2-1 loss to Brighton.

The September 2025 International Break, however, will disrupt some of this period of cohesion. The majority of Manchester City’s senior squad will be departing for international duty as they play with their respective national teams. It will also be a crucial point where several of these players hope to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It remains to be seen how these players will perform during the break.

Following this international window, Manchester City’s senior team will return as they prepare for a busy September. The Sky Blues will play in three competitions this month, and there will be pressure to deliver. They will have games in the English Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the EFL “Carabao” Cup.

They will first turn their attention to the EPL. Manchester City will host their cross-town rivals, Manchester United, in the first match of this month. The Sky Blues will face the Red Devils on Sunday, 14 September at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester United have troubled Manchester City in recent years, and it is expected that this will be a fierce and cagey affair.

After the Manchester derby, Manchester City will turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League. The Sky Blues will enter the competition in the league phase, where they will play Napoli in their opening match on 18 September.

Following their opening game in this season’s Champions League, Manchester City will return to EPL action. They will travel to London to face Arsenal. The Gunners will host the Sky Blues on Sunday, 21 September. Like Manchester United, Arsenal have caused problems for the Cityzens in recent seasons.

After their game against the Gunners, Manchester City will shift their focus to the Carabao Cup. They will enter the competition in the third round and will face Huddersfield Town, which will be played during the week of 22 September.

Following this cup game, Manchester City will return to EPL action. They will host Burnley on Saturday, 27 September.

Overall, the Sky Blues will have a hectic and busy month. There will also be high stakes as they compete in three competitions in September.

After failing to win silverware last season, Manchester City will hope to turn things around this campaign. Time will tell how they fare in the EPL, the Champions League, and the Carabao Cup.
