Manchester City women’s team made their return to the Women’s Super League over the weekend, where they faced a 2-1 loss to Chelsea.
Manchester City’s Women have begun their start to the season, as they hope to produce a successful display going ahead in the WSL, FA Cup, and League Cup.
The summer has been filled with many alterations to the club, such as new signings, exits, and a new head coach.
All of this has been done so Manchester City can fully compete with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United for titles.
However, they weren’t able to get off to the start they would have liked as they were surpassed by Chelsea with a 2-1 scoreline.
While the Sky Blues and their fans would have preferred to set an impression in their first game, there is still a long while to go, meaning there shouldn't be too much panic just yet.
This is something Kerstin Casparij wanted to remind everyone after the loss, which she discussed and shared her thoughts.
Kerstin Casparij on remaining positive despite Manchester City’s loss
“There are 21 games to go. We stay calm, build on this.”
“I think we played well and unfortunately weren’t able to. There are lots of things to review and learn from, and now onto Brighton.”
The player reminded that even though the first fixture ended in a way they wouldn't have wanted it to, they plan to build from there and look ahead to their next game, which is against Brighton on Friday, the 12th at 19:30 (UK).
How Manchester City will be able to fare during the new season, especially with so many new updates undergone, cannot be answered just yet, but the potential for the Cityzens to be proper contenders is there.
Elsewhere, the first match weekend saw Liverpool fall to rivals Everton in a 4-1 loss, while Arsenal overcame newly promoted side London City Lionesses, and Manchester United blew away Leicester City 4-0.
For now, all of Manchester City's focus will be on their next task and that is to get the victory over Brighton.
All of these topics make for an unmissable WSL season, and the biggest one for Manchester City being whether they can truly be in with a chance to claim success.
