Manchester City met rivals Manchester United during the Women's Super League weekend, where the two sides settled on a 2-2 draw.

Manchester City came to the final month of the season needing to win all of their remaining fixtures, while hoping third-place United didn't achieve anything more than one point out of six; while the Sky Blues themselves would need six out of six to overtake their opponents and make the top three.

Another disappointment for Man City as while they did manage to come out of the game with a point, the draw means they cannot qualify for Europe next season as their chances of attaining third are now over.

After City were unable to achieve a single trophy out of the four they were in contention for, their last hope of ending the season on a positive note was to finish the WSL on third place and despite there being one match left in the campaign, which will be a meeting with Crystal Palace, it will be nothing but a formality as the Cityzens have nothing left to work as the season reaches its' end.

For Manchester United, they have qualified for Europe next season along with Arsenal and Chelsea, and their next fixture, which will be against Arsenal, will also be only a formality as the draw was enough to secure their place.

Nick Cushing after the 2-2 draw

"For me, the staff, players and everyone involved, it's about however the game looks, we can find a solution to win, we can do it tactically or with quality, but also mentality and character."

"We've not been able to deliver that over the last six to eight games, we haven't won enough games, so we have to take that, but the reality is that the margin is small."

"I was disappointed we fell the wrong side of the result in the League Cup final. I could sit here and say we're not good enough or it's this or that, but we aren't that far away."

"You have to react to these moments and build a belief that no matter how the season looks, we'll win. And we will do that."

"Ultimately, the challenge was too great for us in the sense of trying to push the game. In the end, it was just too much, but I'm proud of the character of the team."
