Manchester City continued their fine form throughout December as they hope to win various competitions during the 2025/2026 campaign.
They won all five of their English Premier League matches that month. The results mean that Manchester City sit second in the EPL table, currently five points away from Arsenal, but can go back to having a two point gap if they win their next fixture as they have played one game less so far.
Additionally, they defeated Brentford in the EFL “Carabao” Cup Quarter-finals, setting up a two-legged semi-final appearance against Newcastle United. Finally, in the UEFA Champions League, they defeated Real Madrid, meaning the Sky Blues have retained their place in the top eight places of the Champions League table.
But like December, January will see a set of fixtures thick and fast. Within 31 days this month, the Cityzens will play nine matches across four competitions. They will participate in the EPL, the Carabao Cup, and the Champions League, and they will kick off their campaign in the FA Cup.
Manchester City will begin the month with a visit to Sunderland. The Black Cats will host the Sky Blues on Thursday, 1 January. This will be an EPL match.
Following this fixture, Manchester City will return home to host Chelsea in another Premier League game. The match will be held at the Etihad on Sunday, 4 January. It will be the first time these two clubs have faced each other this season.
After the game against Chelsea, Manchester City will host Brighton and Hove Albion in an EPL fixture. The Sky Blues will face the Seagulls on Wednesday, 7 January. Brighton won the reverse fixture against Manchester City earlier this season at the American Express Stadium.
Following this EPL game, the Sky Blues will have a rare third game at home in a row. Manchester City will turn their attention to the FA Cup, a competition where they have reached the final in the past three seasons. Manchester City will host Football League One side Exeter City on Saturday, 10 January.
After this FA Cup game, Manchester City will shift their focus to yet another competition. They will travel to Newcastle for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Magpies will host the Sky Blues on Tuesday, 13 January at St. James’ Park. Newcastle previously won against City at St. James’ Park in an EPL game earlier this season.
Following this Carabao Cup game, the Sky Blues will return to Premier League action. They will travel across Manchester to face Manchester United. The Red Devils will host the Sky Blues on Saturday, 17 January at Old Trafford. Manchester City won the reverse fixture against Manchester United earlier this season.
After this EPL game, the Sky Blues will shift their attention to the Champions League. They will travel to Norway to face Bodø/Glimt. The game will be played on Tuesday, 20 January. It will be the first time these two clubs have faced one another.
Following this Champions League affair, Manchester City will play their final EPL game in January 2026. They will host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad on Saturday, 24 January. The Sky Blues previously defeated Wolves earlier this season.
Finally, the Sky Blues will conclude the month of January with a Champions League match at home. Manchester City will host Turkish club Galatasaray on Wednesday, 28 January. This will be the final match of the Champions League’s league phase. Should the Sky Blues defeat Bodø/Glimt and Galatasaray, then they will avoid the Champions League’s playoff phase, meaning they will have two games fewer to play in February. Given Manchester City’s current congested schedule, that would be a favourable outcome for the club.
Overall, Manchester City have their work cut out for them this month. They will need to proceed with their fine run of form as they face critical matches in four competitions. Failure to perform in these games could see the Sky Blues crash out of some silverware opportunities. But should they triumph, then they could be well on their way to earning trophies this season. Time will tell how Manchester City will fare in January.
