Manchester City’s women’s team took on Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA League Cup, where they defeated 1-0.
Manchester City were unable to claim victory against Chelsea in the FA League Cup meaning they have been eliminated.
The Cityzens were aiming to add success in this cup alongside their optimistic placements in other contests, such as leading the Women’s Super League and a powerful display in their opening FA Cup match.
Their only defeat in the whole season came against Chelsea in the WSL, but after that, they have won every meeting against every opponent.
Even though the Blues are an arduous opposition, due to their own form, City would have fancied their chance.
However, it was a one-sided encounter with a 41-minute goal from Wieke Kaptein, getting the 1-0 triumph for Chelsea, booking them into the final.
Elsewhere, it was Manchester United vs Arsenal, and it was United who got the 1-0 win to join Chelsea in the bid for the honour.
This will be a discouraging result for Manchester City, who have been getting stronger throughout the campaign, and would have surely wanted to remain in this manner.
Despite this, they still have two titles to work towards. But in order to have a go at them, they will have to build up from this defeat, especially since they will be meeting Chelsea again in a few weeks in the WSL.
In the FA Cup, they gained a 6-0 victory against Bournemouth and have been drawn with Sheffield for the next match.
After the result, Lauren Hemp and Andree Jeglertz spoke out.
Andree Jeglertz on City's exit
“First of all, I’m disappointed because we’ve lost the possibility for a title which is important. But, I’m proud.”
“Prepare for the next game with so many things to take. There’ll be no problem focusing on the next.”
“The players worked very hard. There are many things we can be proud of.”
“I’m convinced that soon we’ll get back to ready for the game.”
Lauren Hemp shares annoyance but belief
“It’s frustrating.”
“We’re in a great position in the league, so there’s a lot of positives still left, and it’s an exciting time to be a City player.”
“We gave it our all, and that showed until the final minute of the game.
“We’re not used to losing, to be honest, so it’s very hard to take, and I mean you’re at this club because you want to win things, and we just missed out.”
“But we’ll bounce back in no time. This is a strong group, so I have no doubt.”
