Alas, the 2024/2025 season has ended. During that period, Manchester City were unsuccessful in acquiring new silverware. They were eliminated early in the EFL “Carabao” Cup, as well as the UEFA Champions League. The Sky Blues also struggled in the English Premier League, where injury spells and dips in form saw them fall out of contention for the title.
Their closest attempt at silverware came in the FA Cup, where they advanced to the final. In a surprising fashion, Manchester City were bested by Crystal Palace.
Matters became worse during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. During the competition, Manchester City skipped past their opposition in the group stage with ease. When they entered the Round of 16, however, they were shocked by the Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. The result meant that Manchester City were no longer the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions. The shocking results to Crystal Palace and Al Hilal also meant that the Sky Blues would fail to obtain silverware in the 2024/2025 season, the first time that has occurred since the 2016/2017 season.
The Sky Blues will now look to forget the results from the past season as they prepare for their new campaign. They will have three English Premier League matches in August 2025. They will begin their campaigns in the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League later this season. The Sky Blues also have a match on Saturday, 9 August, but this is a club friendly. They will face Palermo, an Italian club that competes in Serie B.
Manchester City will begin the 2025/2026 EPL season with a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The game will be played on Saturday, 16 August at the Molineux. During the 2024/2025 season, Manchester City struggled against Wolverhampton. While the Sky Blues won both matches last season, they did so by only a goal, meaning the results were not achieved in convincing fashion.
The Sky Blues will then host their first match of the EPL season on Saturday, 23 August. Manchester City will face Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad. During the 2024/2025 season, Manchester City lost this home match 4-0 to Tottenham. The Spurs' offence was able to pressure Manchester City’s defence, and they were very effective. The Sky Blues will hope to avoid a similar result in this match.
Manchester City will then conclude August 2025 with a trip to the American Express Stadium. Brighton and Hove Albion will host Manchester City on 31 August. The Seagulls have recently troubled the Sky Blues. During the 2024/2025 season, Brighton defeated Manchester City 2-1. They then drew the reserve fixture 2-2 in March 2025.
Now, Manchester City will be aiming to get themselves back on top, and in their hopes of doing that, they will need to get the season off to a good start.
