After the EFL Cup action this week, we return to Premier League action with Manchester City taking on Sunderland. It already appears like it will be a two-horse race between City and Arsenal for the title.

This is partly thanks to a poor VAR call that resulted in Erling Haaland's goal against Manchester United being given. This was despite Enzo Fernandez being offside and interfering with play. Calls such as this could decide title races, and fortunately, from a City perspective, this went in favour of Enzo Maresca's side.

City as well as Arsenal have a perfect start to the Premier League season with four out of four. Sunderland have not had such a great start, with one win, one draw, and two defeats. The Black Cats did well last season, finishing seventh, which qualified them for the Europa League. However, they are yet to get going this season.

City's unbeaten run against Sunderland stretches back to the 2013/14 campaign. Then a goal from Phil Bardsley won the game for the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light. However, City have now won the next 11 meetings.

Last season, Sunderland managed to draw at home but lost heavily away against City. One of the goalscorers in the fixture at the Etihad Stadium last year was Foden. However, the Black Cats will not have to worry about him as he will be serving a ban for his red card in the Manchester derby.

Agüero is a notable goalscorer on this list, having scored in three of City's last five games against Sunderland. However, he has long since retired after a brief spell at Barcelona in 2021. For the record, the only goalscorer for Sunderland in the last five games against City was Jermain Defoe.
