Manchester City met Aston Villa in their latest matchweek of the Women's Super League, where they were 4-2 winners.

After a difficult result in the WSL the previous weekend, where Man City were defeated 4-2 by their rivals Manchester United, a few days later the Cityzens played United again, this time in the FA League Cup, and managed a 2-1 victory to cement their advancement to the semifinals.

Back to the WSL, Man City were in desperate need of a win after not only losing to the Red Devils but also dropping out of the top three.

Taking on Aston Villa, who they have played once before this season where they beat them 2-1, City would have been the favourites but Villa's threat wasn't to be underestimated.

However, Manchester City were too strong for Aston Villa to compete with as the result ended in a 4-2 victory for the Sky Blues.

While Villa were able to score in the sixth minute through Chasity Grant and also took City into the break with a 2-2 draw, the Cityzens were too powerful with Mary Fowler and Jess Park both scoring while Vivianne Miedema bagged herself a brace.

Manchester City return to the top three, two points behind Manchester United but nine away from first-placed Chelsea.

Gareth Taylor talks team performance

"It's really nice and I'm pleased to get the win. I think it was a disjointed performance from us today, but we got the job done."

"We were a little flat at times today which can happen when you've played three games in six days. There's been a lot of energy expelled by these players."

"We rotated a little bit, got some bodies back on the bench today which is good and we've seen some players returning which is great."

Vivianne Miedema reacts to victory.

"We knew it was going to be a really tough game. They (Aston Villa) just signed a new coach, they want to show themselves."

"We had a midweek match Wednesday, we knew it was going to be tough. We can't keep trailing 1-0 after ten minutes, we need to fix that up."

"The character shown today, to come back and go win this game is really, really good."
