Manchester City played in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. They were defeated 2-1 by Tottenham, crashing out of the league cup.

The fourth round of the Carabao Cup kicked off earlier this week, Man City were tasked with Tottenham to take on for a place in the next round.

The fixture kicked off with Spurs bagging an early goal in the fifth minute to give themselves a dream start to the encounter. And things went bad to worse for the cityzens, as Spurs doubled their scoreline to 2-0 before the half-hour mark was even upon them.

Matheus Nunes did give city some hope as he made it 2-1 before halftime. However, no more goals were scored in the next 45 minutes.

In conclusion, Man City have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup due to the 2-1 loss and will no longer play league cup football this season.

Pep Guardiola reflects on the elimination.

"It was a good game. It was really tough in the transitions, but we played really, really good. But their first action, they scored."

"In general, we played really good and I'm so proud. I really like the way we play. I don't like to lose, but I like to see the way we played with courage and the way we behave - I like it."

The elimination from the cup really shouldn't come as too much of a shock to everyone, especially when considering the mindset Pep took in the fixture.

He previously stated that he wasn't going to risk his players against Spurs and also that he saw more importance in upcoming games in the Premier League and Champions League - which are all scheduled in the next few days.

Overall, the defeat from the League Cup most likely be taken with a heavy for Pep Guardiola, who still has three other trophies for Man City to end their season with; and many may agree, three trophies that will contain more importance for a club of Man City's calibre.
