With the international break now underway for the players, we reflect on the current state of the Premier League after the 11th round of matches were played.
Manchester City finished their 11th fixture of the 24/25 Premier League season with no points to add to the table for the second time this campaign. The Cityzens have accumulated 23 points after seven wins, two losses, and two draws so far.
Elsewhere Liverpool have made a strong start, winning nine, drawing one, and losing one of their fixtures. They are at the top of the table with 28 points separating them from City by five.
Arsenal have been far from perfect, only winning five, drawing four, and losing two. The Gunners are on 19 points, four away from Manchester City and nine from Liverpool.
Have Man City and Arsenal's hopes of winning the premier league already come to an abrupt end?
After only 11 games of the 38 fixture list completed, we're seeing some strong statement signs from Liverpool but worrisome ones from the Premier League top two from the last few seasons, Man City and Arsenal.
Both City and Arsenal have fallen to two defeats each so far, the Sky Blues' misery coming against Bournemouth and Brighton, and the Gunners losing out to Bournemouth and Newcastle.
The Gunners have gotten themselves in a rather tough situation very soon into the campaign, nine points look like a huge obstacle to overcome and while Arsenal's quality is immense, it does look as if their hopes of winning the Premier League have been cut short and this season, their quest will be securing a spot in the top four, especially with rivals Chelsea matching their accumulated points and multiple clubs right behind them.
While Arsenal's point gap definitely screams 'title race hopes over', Manchester City's are certainly far from. However, while the points gap is something that can very easily change considering it's only five points, if this injury-plagued side can start producing results that can keep up with this newly renovated Liverpool throughout the next few months is an entirely different question.
Man City have been faced with multiple injury concerns and while names have returned and some will hopefully when the international break is over, the most prominent name that won't be returning is Ballon d'Or champion Rodri, who has been confirmed to miss the entire 24/25 season.
Rodri has been a pivotal piece to the successful puzzle that City have been completing these last few seasons, in winning four-in-a-row premier league titles, FA Cup trophies and their first-ever Champions League triumphant. City without Rodri's presence in the midfield is a different city than with him, it's fair to say.
So, we've already seen the Cityzens suffer without their Spaniard this season, especiallylosing four games on the bounce, Rodri's absence will seem to be a costly one as we go forward.
But, even though it's only been two games lost in the Premier League, the look of Man City in this current moment isn't looking too promising. And with Arne Slot's Liverpool looking in great form before the start of the new year, it's going to be a difficult ask of Liverpool's upcoming opponents to take away three points from them.
Though, in football, we know anything is possible and we've also seen Manchester City do the impossible from time to time, this could be one of those situations yet again.
But, for that to happen Pep Guardiola's man city will need major improvements quickly if they are to remain in this title race.
