Manchester City's women have played their final fixture of the season as the Women's Super League comes to an end.

Manchester City's season has reached its' conclusion after they secured a 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace on the weekend. The entire WSL campaign has ended, and the final standings have been revealed.

The aim for the Cityzens was to finish on third place and go above their biggest rivals, Manchester United. However, recent results proved difficult for City to achieve this, with it becoming impossible after they failed to pick up a total of nine points in their last few fixtures, and United did indeed get themselves four points, which in itself was enough to keep Man City on fourth place.

Who won the league and who secured the vital European spots, while the relegated side have been determined. Here, we took a look at what this season brought for all 12 clubs.

The Women's Super League final standings

  • 1 Chelsea - 60 points (winners)
  • 2 Arsenal - 48 points (UWCL)
  • 3 Manchester United - 44 points (UWCL)
  • 4 Manchester City - 43 points
  • 5 Brighton and Hove Albion - 28 points
  • 6 Aston Villa - 25 points
  • 7 Liverpool - 25 points
  • 8 Everton - 24 points
  • 9 West ham - 23 points
  • 10 Leicester City - 20 points
  • 11 Tottenham - 20 points
  • 12 Crystal Palace - 10 points (Relegated)

While Chelsea claimed the title after a healthy lead over their opponents, it was Arsenal and Manchester United who earned themselves a place in Europe. Crystal Palace will be heading down from the Women's Super League as they are the relegated side of this season.

While the women's league season comes to an end, there is still more football left for some of these clubs to play: as Chelsea and Manchester United meet in the upcoming FA Cup final, and Arsenal take on Barcelona in the Women's Champions League final.

For Manchester City, they add another disappointment as they miss out on returning to the biggest club competition, with only one point keeping them away from third spot.

It was always going to be a slim chance of them overtaking their rivals, but it was still doable. However, despite their efforts over Crystal Palace, it was nothing but a formality match and a positive way to end the season, as their hopes had already come to an end after a 2-2 draw with United.

So, this means the Sky Blues have ended the term without a top-three place and also, a single trophy to their name.

They will be looking to make significant changes and attributions to the team for a more successful season next time around.
