Manchester City's women’s team took on Bournemouth in their opening FA Cup fixture, where they claimed a massive 6-0 victory to progress in the competition.
Manchester City’s women have earned their placement in the next round of the FA Cup, and they now learn who their opponents will be.
It was quite the performance by the Cityzens, who ran past Bournemouth with goals coming from Laura Coombs and Vivianne Miedema, both of them getting a double each, and Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp also adding to the scoreline.
This gets City's FA Cup campaign off with a positive result, one that proves they are in it to win it and just how capable they are.
Elsewhere, Chelsea got a 5-0 win against Crystal Palace, Everton defeated West Albion 5-0, and Arsenal gained a victory against Aston Villa.
This gives Manchester City another opportunity for triumph. While in the Women’s Super League, they are at the top of the table with a gap over Chelsea, they are also in the FA League Cup, where they’ll be meeting Chelsea for a place in the final, and after their victory, the FA Cup stays as a possibility as well.
They are truly on their way to success, but there remains a long way to go before titles are decided. But if City can keep their current form, these trophies will be theirs for the taking.
Let’s take a look at the official draw for the next round of this league.
FA Cup fixtures
Manchester City vs Sheffield United
Liverpool vs Everton
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Oxford vs Charlton Athletic
West ham vs Brighton
London vs Tottenham
Birmingham vs Chatham
Arsenal vs Bristol City
This is the complete match list. While Man City take on Sheffield United, there will also be the Merseyside derby, a massive game between Chelsea and Man United, and an all-WSL meeting featuring London vs Tottenham.
The fixtures are set to take place on the 22nd of February.
Until then, there will be the usual League commitments and also in the Cup for some of the clubs.
Andree Jeglertz on Manchester City’s result
“Of course, I’m happy that we won the game, but what I’m probably most proud of is the habits.”
“No matter what, we keep on doing things we should do, and those good habits are things we all need to have."
“Those are crucial for us.”
“And if we can do it today, we can do it in all games. That’s the standard. It’s more important than the result, almost.”
