Manchester City star Elliot Anderson revealed that Phil Foden was 'bouncing' inside the dressing room at full-time after they beat Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Erling Haaland struck the only goal of the game in the 60th minute to separate the sides as United failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage after Foden's sending off.
The 26-year-old forward was shown a straight red for kicking into Bruno Fernandes while on the floor after a challenge from the Portuguese playmaker, just 23 minutes into the kick-off.
Foden was in disbelief and was seen having a heated exchange with referee Michael Oliver but walked off the field upon his teammates' insistence.
City were dealt an early blow but held on as United proved wasteful with their chances, and Haaland's controversial strike - where he seemed offside in the build up - eventually making them pay for it.
Anderson, playing in his first Manchester derby since his high-profile £116 million transfer in the summer, later revealed Foden's reaction in the dressing room after the full-time whistle.
He said:
"He was gutted to not play in the full game, but he was bouncing up and down the changing room. As we all were."
Picking up the Man of the Match award for another brilliant performance, Anderson admitted that Foden's sending off made it harder for City to exert themselves in the game but took pride in them pulling through regardless.
"[The red card] made the game a lot harder and we’ve all come together and it shows real fighting leadership from the lads. It wasn’t ideal, Phil going off, but we all fought for it. It changed the way of playing, but we did really well at it."
This was the first time that Foden was sent off in a Premier League fixture, ending his clean slate of disciplinary record after 228 top-flight matches, whilst becoming just the second Manchester City player to see red in a Premier League Manchester derby.
Although United had the numerical advantage, they lacked the cutting edge to bury their chances, with Bryan Mbeumo seeing a glorious opportunity in the 94th minute parried over by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
City registered their first win away to Old Trafford in almost three years and kept their winning start to the Premier League season intact after four games. They next play Norwich City in the third round of the EFL Cup on Thursday.
