Man City striker Divin Mubama looks set to complete a move to EFL Championship side Southampton. The 21-year old is due to sign a season-long loan deal as he bids for regular first team football.
Mubama spent last season out on loan at Stoke City. He started well, scoring on debut against Derby County. Mubama also scored the first senior hattrick of his career against Bristol City. His season was hampered by injury, though, and ended the season with just five goals in 26 appearances for the West Midlands side.
Mubama will be hoping, and expecting, for a more productive loan spell at Southampton. He's impressed during City's preseason tour of Asia, scoring against Inter Milan and K League All Stars and grabbing an assist for Rayan Ait-Nouri's finish against Atletico Madrid.
There's lots to like about Divin Mubama. He's quick, strong and has a keen eye for goal. His first team chances at Man City are, though, low. He's up against the best striker in world soccer in Erling Haaland for a place in the team, as well as fighting it out with City's other attacking talent in Omar Marmoush, Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and co.
His talent is undeniable, though, and if his loan move to Southampton goes through, Saints fans can expect plenty of goals from the England Under-21 international.
What do we think City fans? A good move for the young striker or should the Blues keep Mubama around the first team squad? I'm excited to see what Mubama can do, if he can stay injury-free, and I'm expecting plenty of goals in a Championship-title challenging side.
